ECO-FRIENDLY AS SALES ARGUMENT?

How can you be sure that a web design company is truly eco-friendly, or just tries to tap into a different part of the market?
As a customer you have every right to have healthy suspicions. After all, when a phenomenon is becoming a hot topic, be it SEO or be it sustainability, the internet fills itself with self proclaimed specialists of the domain.
How can you be sure that a company that advertises itself as being ‘green’… truly is what it says?

HOST SERVERS

We have struggled with the question ourselves. There are several server hosts that advertise themselves as operating on green energy, especially in the USA, but how could we as web designers be sure?

What we first did was eliminate those companies for who sustainability was only part of the package – companies that dedicate one page of their website to ‘eco-friendliness’, but another to ‘gay friendliness’ or ‘low budget friendliness’. Even with noble intentions and being reliable companies, we felt this was not promising.

Then we eliminated the companies who do not advertise their philosophy immediately on their index page, or not very clear.

Finally we were left with two possibilities only – and finally we opted for a server hosting company based in Niagara Falls, US and Ontario, Canada, that was the only company with an official certificate and supported by important organisations operating in ecology.

Their park with 24/24 security and support has purchased 100% green energy from modern wind mills and solar panels.

It goes without saying that you will not come to inspect us in Andalucia,just for the sake of your website. Consequently, our question was how we could convince our customers of our reliability?
The answer lies in the design of the website you are visiting right now. Black is not the most customer friendly of all colours. We could have made a far more attractive website, in order to attract a large as possible part of the market – but did not do so. If you are as serious about the wish to contribute to a sustainable economy as we are, you will accept and understand that by reducing the number of images and the dominant use of black, reduces usage of electricity.

CONFIDENCE

All this being said, any purchase of any product comes with at least a minimum degree of confidence. You have the confidence that the food you buy will not make you ill, and that the cell phone or laptop will still work a long time after the guarantee has expired.
